What happened
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy joined the “Keep Wisconsin Trucking Great” industry event in his home state of Wisconsin, in the Department of Transportation’s March 14, 2026 upload of the gathering. Speakers at the event highlighted provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill, including that a server would not have to pay tax on the first $12,500 of tips and a worker would not have to pay tax on the first $12,500 of overtime, as those provisions were described from the stage. The program also took up the Highway Trust Fund debate — how road funding is raised, including the argument made at the event that electric-vehicle drivers who pay no gas tax should pay into the system, as it was stated there.
Why it matters
The Wisconsin event is Duffy’s trucking agenda in retail form: the Secretary taking the department’s case — driver workforce, highway funding, and the tax provisions his party campaigned on — directly to the industry audience in the state he represented in Congress. It pairs with the same day’s Monroe County infrastructure event, paged separately on this site, as the two stops of his March 14 Wisconsin swing.
