What happened
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, along with members of Congress and several governors, hosted a press conference at the United States Department of Agriculture to roll out USDA’s National Farm Security Action Plan, published by the department on July 9, 2025. According to the department’s description, the press conference rolled out the plan and discussed actions being taken to protect American agriculture from foreign threats.
Why it matters
The plan frames American agriculture as national-security terrain: the Agriculture Secretary presenting a farm-security plan alongside the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security and the Attorney General is the administration treating foreign threats to the food supply as a whole-of-government problem, not a farm-program matter alone.
