What happened

HUD published Secretary Scott Turner’s fireside chat with Rep. De La Cruz on October 21, 2026, under the title ‘Securing the American Dream for South Texans.’ The conversation is the department’s published record of the Secretary’s South Texas housing discussion with the congresswoman, as HUD titled and presented it.

Why it matters

South Texas is border-country housing territory — homeownership, affordability, and federal housing programs in the Rio Grande Valley region are core to Turner’s HUD portfolio — and a fireside chat with the region’s representative is where the Secretary presents that portfolio to the community it serves.
