What happened
The President’s Military Spouse Commission held its second meeting on October 19, 2026, in a session carried on the White House channel. The meeting was called to order by the commission’s designated federal officer, who stated it was held in compliance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act with a quorum of appointed commissioners present and the proceedings open to the public.
The commission chair said the first meeting had covered health care, employment, housing, education, and child care, and noted that she had come from the Rose Garden, where the President and First Lady had signed the women’s health executive order — which she said included the Department of War and its nearly 400,000 female service members and four million spouses and dependents, in her figures. She tied the commission’s work to readiness: healthier, better-supported military families, in her account, are the end the commission serves.
Why it matters
President Trump established this commission by executive order earlier in his term — the establishing order is itself a page in this library — and its meetings are where the administration’s military-family agenda takes working shape: the spouse employment, housing, and child-care questions that decide whether service members stay in uniform. The commission’s second meeting, held the same day as the women’s health signing, shows the two efforts running as one military-families track.
