What happened
Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling joined the National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) 2026 webcast “Celebrating Value & Talent – A Milestone Conversation,” released by the Department of Labor on October 16, 2026. According to the department’s description of the webcast, it covers the record-high number of working-age disabled Americans with jobs, the Office of Disability Employment Policy’s 25 years of impact, the road to financial independence, recovery-ready workplaces, and the future of work.
The featured guests, as the department listed them, were Secretary Sonderling; ODEP Assistant Secretary Julie Hocker; former ODEP Assistant Secretary Neil Romano; OSHA Assistant Secretary David Keeling; EBSA Assistant Secretary Daniel Aronowitz; and Kathryn Burgum, Co-Chair of the Great American Recovery Initiative. The department also published an ASL-interpreted version of the same webcast, recorded as an alternate source in the site index rather than separately paged.
Why it matters
The milestone conversation is the Sonderling Labor Department’s flagship disability-employment statement of NDEAM 2026: the Secretary appearing alongside his ODEP, OSHA, and EBSA assistant secretaries to mark 25 years of the department’s disability employment office, with the record-high employment figure for working-age disabled Americans — as the department states it — as the headline claim the tenure will be measured against.
