What happened

President Donald Trump took questions from reporters at Joint Base Andrews on October 10, 2026, in a gaggle carried on the White House channel, after returning from a Tennessee rally he described as a great success for Senator Bill Hagerty and the state’s other Republican candidates.

Asked why he had appointed a committee to investigate Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, the President said hers was “a very important position” and called her “an automatic no vote,” which he said was “not a good thing.” On Ukraine, he said President Zelensky should hold an election and could have settled the war many times. On Iran, asked why not simply declare victory on the nuclear question, he said a guarantee was required: “We could leave right now, but we have to guarantee that they can’t have it in the future and we’ll get that.”

Asked about his new press secretary, Katie Zacharia — who he noted was taking the place of Karoline Leavitt — the President said he had watched her on television, that “she does a very good job,” and that she believes in the administration’s agenda.

Why it matters

Departure and arrival gaggles are where this President most often states his positions in his own words, outside a prepared text. Foreign policy is the portfolio of Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, whose records this site tracks against statements like these. The Cook remarks also bear on the Federal Reserve record this site tracks under Chair Kevin Warsh, where the President’s public pressure on the central bank is a standing scoreboard thread.
