What happened

President Donald Trump took questions from reporters on his arrival at the White House on October 6, 2026, in a short gaggle carried on the White House channel. Its headline exchange concerned the dividend he has promised Americans from tariff revenue. Asked what Congress needed to do to authorize it, he said: “It’ll work out very easily. It’s going to work out very well. Just like we got 1776 for our military, just like we caught the Obamacare scam and we’re giving people back their money.” Pressed later on the mechanism, he tied the dividend to tariffs themselves: “The dividends are happening… If we Republicans win that dividend — and the Democrats can’t do it because they don’t do tariffs.”

He also dismissed protests against the planned triumphal arch (“they’re all paid protesters”), said a call with President Putin was scheduled “very soon” and that intelligence agencies were in “very deep discussions” about the Russian outbreak, with a report “probably tomorrow”; said MAGA Inc. would pay for advertising because “we have a lot of money in MAGA Inc… We’re using it for other candidates”; and named the economy as his midterm case — “more people are working in America today than at any time in history,” with the poverty rate “the single best poverty rate, meaning lowest poverty rate we’ve ever had.”

Why it matters

The tariff dividend is one of the ten starter promises this chronicle tracks, currently carried as Pending on the scoreboard. Statements like this one — asserting the payments are coming and tying them to tariff revenue and Republican control — are the dated evidence the promise record is built from.

Scoreboard watch

This is a candidate item for the promise record and the weekly scoreboard: a fresh, dated presidential commitment on the Trump dividend, with the funding mechanism (tariffs) and the condition (Republican wins) stated by the President himself.
