What happened

President Donald Trump visited the Peterbilt Motors factory in Denton, Texas, on October 1, 2026, addressing the plant’s workforce in an event carried in full on the White House channel. Peterbilt’s Preston Feight welcomed him and thanked “President Trump, Secretary of Commerce Lutnick and the whole administration for putting trade policies in place that are good for America” and for “strengthening American manufacturing.”

The President dwelled on the plant’s output — “200 trucks a day,” he said, “and they sell them faster than they can make them” — and on the expansion under way: “For more than 85 years, the men and women of Peterbilt have produced some of the toughest, strongest, highest quality trucks anywhere in the world,” he said, “proudly bearing the iconic red oval and stamped with that beautiful phrase made in the USA.” From the factory floor he ranged across his record: egg prices, which he credited Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins with bringing down; gasoline prices below the prior administration’s despite the war; and extended accounts of the Venezuela operation and the Iran war, including oil moving through the Strait of Hormuz and plans to refill the strategic reserve. He thanked Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, USTR Jamieson Greer, and Secretary Rollins by name.

Why it matters

The visit is the administration’s manufacturing argument made in person: a flagship American plant expanding under its trade policy, presented by the President himself. Trade and manufacturing are the portfolios of Secretary Lutnick at Commerce, Secretary Bessent at Treasury, and USTR Greer, all of whose records this site tracks.

Scoreboard watch

This is a candidate item for the weekly scoreboard: a named plant expansion credited on the record to administration trade policy. What the scoreboard will check as the record develops is the expansion itself — capacity added and trucks built — against the claims made at the podium.
