What happened

President Donald Trump took questions from reporters after landing at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on October 1, 2026, traveling with Senators James Lankford and Ted Cruz on a swing that took him to the Peterbilt plant in Denton and on to Oklahoma. His central theme was that his economic record was not reaching voters: “We have the best numbers of any president in history,” he said, citing $21 trillion in investment and record stock-market highs, “but the press doesn’t report it.”

On energy, he said Europe might be asked to release diesel stocks but that “all prices are coming down,” and predicted that when the Iran war ends — “very soon,” one way or the other — “oil prices are going to drop like a rock.” On immigration, he said enforcement’s first priority is removing “murderers, drug dealers, rapists, people that have been really bad people,” and stated that the country had just recorded a “17th month where zero people came in” across the border. He also backed Attorney General Ken Paxton in Texas and said his Oklahoma stop was a thank-you to a state where he won all 77 counties in three straight elections.

Why it matters

This gaggle is the midterm campaign in the President’s own framing: an economic record he says is historically strong, an energy-price promise tied to the war’s end, and border numbers he presents as fulfilled. The scoreboard tracks each of those claims as the record develops into the November 3, 2026 midterms.
