What happened

President Donald Trump delivered remarks launching America.gov, describing it as “not just simply a website” but “a restoration of America’s founding promise” and “a reinvention of your government for the 21st century.” Instead of “tens of thousands of terrible government websites” and “more than 10,000 forms,” he said, citizens will have “one front door for every single question” — “the entire US government will fit in the palm of your hand.”

He credited Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, the United States’ chief design officer, chief brand architect Peter Arnell, lead engineer Edward Coristine, and the National Design Studio team, and thanked Elon Musk, whom he credited with initially envisioning the transformation of government through technology. The project, he said, started “almost on day one” of the administration.

Why it matters

America.gov is the citizen-facing deliverable of the administration’s government-efficiency program — the service-delivery counterpart to the workforce and spending reductions run through OMB. It is the flagship product of the National Design Studio model this site tracks under the Gov Efficiency & Workforce hub.

Scoreboard watch

This is a candidate item for the weekly scoreboard: a launched government product with a stated promise — one front door for federal services. What the scoreboard will check is adoption and function: which services actually route through America.gov as the record develops.
