What happened
President Donald Trump took questions at Joint Base Andrews on his return from the Presidents Cup at Medinah, outside Chicago, congratulating the American team and captain Brandt Snedeker on what he called “one of the greatest comebacks in the history of golf.” Turning to the week’s diplomacy, he said of his meeting with China’s President Xi: “we made tremendous progress… a lot of good things are happening including for our farmers.”
Asked about his schedule, he noted a dinner that night with Anthropic’s Dario Amodei ahead of the week’s technology meetings. He closed with his economic record, saying that with the exception of oil — lower, he said, than under the prior administration — prices are coming down, and that 401(k)s and the stock market are at all-time highs.
Why it matters
The gaggle is the President’s first on-record readout of the Xi state visit’s outcome, including the farm-goods line that the trade team of Secretary Bessent, Secretary Lutnick, and USTR Greer is tasked with delivering. It belongs to the China record this site tracks under the Foreign Policy & Defense hub.
