What happened
President Donald Trump took questions from reporters at the first tee box of his Doonbeg golf course in Ireland on September 13, 2026, during the Irish Open, in a gaggle carried on the White House channel. On the $5,000 dividend, he said he did not know whether Congress would need to approve it, “but it’s easy… it’s $5,000 to all adults in the country. And we can easily handle that because we’re taking in so much money… I made that pledge. I always keep my pledge.” He contrasted it with the record he ran through on the tax law: “No tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on social security.”
On Iran, he put the war’s end after the midterms: “Iran will end right after the — maybe before, but it’ll end right after the midterms… Iran wants to make a deal so badly. They are calling constantly. They want to make a deal. They got to make the right deal.” On Ukraine, he repeated his diesel instruction: President Zelenskyy “has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia… Don’t hit diesel fuel because that’s hurting the world.” He also floated Irish unification in answer to a question about a referendum: “you have Northern Ireland and you have Ireland and it would seem to me that one of the naturals of all time is put them together. So that’s only my opinion.”
Why it matters
Doonbeg is the pledge in its purest form: the $5,000 dividend restated as a kept-promise commitment at his own course, with the Iran end-date pegged to the midterm calendar — both are dated claims this chronicle’s promise tracker and scoreboard exist to check.
Scoreboard watch
This gaggle carries candidate claims for the scoreboard: the $5,000-per-adult dividend pledge, restated on the record, and the prediction that the Iran war ends right after the midterm elections.
