What happened

President Donald Trump took questions from reporters at Joint Base Andrews on September 11, 2026, before departing for a trip built around meetings with European leaders, including in Ireland, in a short gaggle carried on the White House channel. “We have a lot of meetings scheduled with the European leaders, including Ireland and lots of others,” he said. “It’ll be a very interesting time.”

Asked whether he had gotten his message across to voters in Dallas, the President called the midterm convention there “a tremendous success”: “It was packed. Thousands of people couldn’t get in. We tried putting screens up at the outside.” On the midterms themselves, he acknowledged the historical pattern — “you look at statistically when you’re the president, Republican or Democrat, for some reasons, weird things happen in the midterms” — before predicting the outcome anyway: “I think we’re going to have a great win in the midterms.”

Why it matters

This is the President framing the closing stretch of the midterm campaign in his own words, on the way out of the country: the Dallas convention as proof of momentum, and a public prediction of a Republican win that the November 3, 2026 results will test directly.
