What happened
In a recorded announcement released on the White House channel on September 10, 2026, President Donald Trump said his administration had discovered that households buying insurance through the Obamacare exchange and healthcare.gov under the prior administration “were forced to pay excessive fees totaling at least $500 million.” “The last administration knew about this and they studied it, but they kept the money,” he said. “Our administration is doing the right thing and giving the money back to the people who were wrongly ripped off.”
