What happened
President Donald Trump traveled to the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas, on September 10, 2026, to sign the Hershel Woody Williams National Medal of Honor Monument Location Act — the legislation clearing the way for a national Medal of Honor monument on the National Mall in Washington. Museum foundation chair Charlotte Jones opened the ceremony by noting that of the 40 million Americans who have served, fewer than 4,000 have received the Medal of Honor, just 65 recipients are alive today, and 16 were present. The monument bill, she said, took eight votes over six years — “every single one of them had unanimous approval.”
The President signed the bill at the museum, with Woody Williams’s family in attendance, and used his remarks to range across his economic record, citing “close to $21 trillion” in investment coming into the country and the return of auto-plant construction. The foundation closed the event by naming the President an honorary director and presenting him its Champion of Honor Award, citing his support for the monument act and for ensuring recipients “are permanently recognized on the National Mall in Washington DC.”
Why it matters
A monument on the National Mall is a permanent addition to the veterans’ landscape this chronicle tracks under Secretary Doug Collins’s VA portfolio and the wider veterans record — and a bill signing, with the President’s name on the law, is the most concrete form the record takes.
Scoreboard watch
This is a candidate item for the weekly scoreboard: a bill signing enacting the Medal of Honor monument’s National Mall location. What the scoreboard will follow from here is the monument itself — design, funding, and construction against the authorization signed in Arlington.
