What happened

President Donald Trump took questions from reporters at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on September 10, 2026, after two arena nights in Texas he described as “absolutely sold out”: “Never been done before, Republican or Democrat, but it was phenomenal.” Asked to rate Vice President JD Vance’s performance with an eye to 2028, he said Vance “did very well tonight” and “has been a great vice president.”

The economic center of the gaggle was the promised $5,000 checks. Asked how he would pay for them, the President said: “Out of growth. We have tremendous growth. We have growth like no country has ever seen before. We have trillions of dollars coming in.” Pressed on the deficit, he said recipients would reinvest the money in the country, and framed the checks as “a reward for the people having to put up with” the prior administration’s policies. On Iran, he said oil prices would “drop very rapidly as soon as we win the military conflict,” predicted gasoline would return to levels he put at “$1.85 and $1.95” a gallon — “maybe even below those numbers” — and repeated that Iran “will never have a nuclear weapon.”

On the one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, the President said Kirk’s work with young Americans was “incredible”: “What he was able to do with young people, he just — young people loved him. They still do.” He also said he had no concern about AI leading to human extinction, put the U.S. lead over China in AI at about a year, and previewed President Xi’s upcoming state visit and dinner.

Why it matters

The $5,000 dividend is one of the ten starter promises this chronicle tracks, and this gaggle is a dated statement of its funding mechanism — growth and incoming investment, in the President’s words — alongside a specific, checkable gasoline-price prediction tied to the war’s end.

Scoreboard watch

This is a candidate item for the promise record and the weekly scoreboard: the $5,000-check commitment restated with its funding rationale, and a prediction of sub-$2 gasoline after the Iran war ends. The scoreboard will check both against the record as it develops.
