What happened

President Donald Trump welcomed leaders of American finance, crypto, and technology to the White House on August 19, 2026, ahead of the first-ever meeting of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Innovation Advisory Committee in Washington. “The people in this room are ensuring that the future of commercial markets is pioneered and perfected right here in the USA,” he said, naming executives in the room from Coinbase, the Intercontinental Exchange and New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, Robinhood, Kraken, Ripple, and Chainlink, alongside the Winklevoss twins and investor Chris Dixon.

The CFTC chairman told the room the administration had “made the United States the crypto capital of the world,” protected federally regulated prediction markets, and stood ready to implement the Clarity Act as Congress advances it “towards the finish line,” with the committee’s inaugural meeting set for the following day. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins reported that since Inauguration Day “583 companies have gone public,” up 75% over the comparable prior period, raising “$28 billion,” and said the SEC’s new crypto-assets proposal would let entrepreneurs raise capital in the United States using digital assets. Digital-assets adviser Patrick Witt also addressed the gathering.

Why it matters

Financial-market regulation is an Economy-hub file this chronicle tracks through the administration’s crypto and capital-markets agenda: the claims made here — an IPO count, a raise total, a pending market-structure bill, and a first-of-its-kind advisory committee — are dated and checkable against the agencies’ records.

Scoreboard watch

This is a candidate item for the weekly scoreboard: the Atkins figures (583 IPOs and $28 billion raised since Inauguration Day) and the Clarity Act’s progress toward the President’s desk. What the scoreboard will check is the SEC’s published IPO record and the bill’s status in Congress.
