What happened
President Donald Trump signed an executive order in the Oval Office on August 10, 2026, announcing what he called the United States’ “gold standard childhood vaccination recommendations.” “For far too long, America’s recommended more childhood vaccines than any peer nation and even twice as many doses as some European countries,” he said, putting the current schedule at “72 jabs” for children, including the hepatitis B shot for newborns, which he said “shouldn’t be given until they are 14 or 15 years old.”
Under the new recommendations, effective immediately: 11 core vaccinations against the most serious diseases; the MMR “broken into three separate single doses” given at “separate visits, separate times” — five separate vaccine visits at age one rather than all in one day; and vaccinations for hepatitis B, COVID-19, and influenza “no longer recommended for all children.” Parents, he stressed, “can still choose to give their children all of the vaccinations if they wish… and they will be covered by insurance.” The order also directs the Attorney General to advance legal challenges against states that violate children’s rights to religious or medical exemptions. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. laid out the research program behind the order — vaccine-safety and autism studies across FDA, CDC, NIH, and the reinstated Task Force on Safer Childhood Vaccines, with the full response to the order due within 90 days — and NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya described the Autism Data Science Initiative’s work on causes. “This announcement is a major victory for parents’ rights, religious and constitutional rights, and for the gold standard science,” the President said.
Why it matters
This is the signature health action of Secretary Kennedy’s HHS in this stretch of the record: a signed order rewriting the childhood schedule the federal government recommends, with the research apparatus and a 90-day reporting deadline attached. The full MAHA record is carried on this site and, in dedicated depth, on the sister site RFK Team Report.
Scoreboard watch
This is a candidate item for the weekly scoreboard: a signed executive order setting the new childhood vaccine recommendations. What the scoreboard will follow is the order’s implementation — the published CDC schedule, the Attorney General’s exemption litigation, and HHS’s 90-day response.
