What happened

President Donald Trump took questions at Los Angeles International Airport on August 4, 2026, leading with that night’s election in Michigan, which he said looked like “a little bit of a horse race” after one candidate had been “way down a few weeks ago.” Asked whether socialists are the new face of the Democratic Party, he answered: “It could be. I would say so. The communists are the new base,” and suggested Democrats “should form another party, the Communists of America Party.”

On the Strait of Hormuz, he said a reopening “could happen tomorrow or Thursday,” reporting that Iran had called asking to talk: “A lot of progress has been made… They want to make a deal. They do not want to be hit.” He closed on the economy: “We set new records today in the stock market. Yesterday, today — I think it’s like 78 times now during a very short period of time… Our economic numbers are unbelievable like never ever before.”

Why it matters

A short gaggle that updates three live files at once: the midterm map (a Michigan race the President is watching), the Hormuz negotiation (a named two-day window for a possible reopening, against the backdrop of the strike he described calling off two days earlier), and the market-records count the scoreboard tracks against the index record.

Scoreboard watch

This gaggle carries a scoreboard-watch claim: a possible Strait of Hormuz reopening “tomorrow or Thursday” (August 5–6, 2026), attributed to talks Iran requested. The scoreboard will check it against the strait’s actual status in that window.
