What happened

President Donald Trump convened his cabinet at Camp David on July 31, 2026, and opened the meeting room to the press — a room, he said, the press had never come anywhere near, with the last press visit to the campus dating to the Eisenhower era. “We are the party of transparency and we believe in transparency,” he said. “This is one of the most talented teams ever to serve the United States.”

His opening review ran through the administration’s headline claims: “the strongest border in American history,” with, on his telling, zero illegal releases through the southern border for 15 straight months; a murder rate he described as seeing its largest drop ever recorded, to the lowest level in 125 years; and more factories and plants being built in the country than ever before. Cabinet members then reported in turn; Secretary of War Pete Hegseth credited the President with authorizing the military operations he described and with restoring merit and discipline in the department, pointing to what he called historic reenlistment and recruitment records.

Why it matters

An open, on-camera cabinet meeting at Camp David is the administration’s own mid-2026 stock-taking in one sitting — the claims the secretaries chose to lead with, in their own words, preserved as the primary-source record the weekly scoreboard checks against the published data.

Scoreboard watch

This meeting carries scoreboard-watch claims: zero southern-border releases for 15 months, the murder-rate drop, and the factory-building pace. The scoreboard will check them against the CBP, FBI, and Commerce figures as they publish.
