What happened

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt briefed members of the media at the White House on July 23, 2026. She opened with scheduling announcements: President Trump would welcome the Los Angeles Dodgers to the White House that afternoon to celebrate their second consecutive World Series championship, and would attend the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner the following night.

In questions, Leavitt said a prospective civilian nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia was “still being worked out” and would hopefully be finalized with the condition the President had spoken about that morning, including priority access for American companies as discussed. Asked whether election officials who knowingly allowed non-citizens to vote could be prosecuted — following reporting that thousands of non-citizens were registered to vote in New Jersey and remarks by Secretary Mullin — she deferred prosecution questions to the Department of Justice. She also argued, in answer to a question about the Democratic Party, that “literal self-proclaimed communists” were winning elections and claiming the party’s leadership, pointing to Cuba as, in her words, a country about to become a failed state because of communist policies.

Why it matters

The briefings are the administration’s daily on-record account of itself, and this one falls inside Leavitt’s tenure at the podium — she departed the role on August 27, 2026 — so the chronicle keeps it as part of the briefing record alongside her successor’s first briefing on October 13, 2026.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard watch: the New Jersey non-citizen registration exchange puts a dated marker on the election-integrity file (prosecution questions deferred to the Justice Department on the record). Noted for the scoreboard editor; no entry is published from this page.
