What happened

President Donald Trump spoke briefly with reporters at Joint Base Andrews on July 22, 2026, as he traveled to honor fallen soldiers. “We’re going to honor them and… one of the hardest things to do for me, it’s one of the hardest things to do as a president, but [it has] to be done,” he said of the ceremony ahead.

Asked for an update on the investigation into how the soldiers were killed in Jordan, he said, “No, they’re doing that. That’ll be relieved [released].” Of Iran he said: “They’re going to pay a big price. They’re getting — they’re being decimated.” Asked what he would say to the families, he answered: “All I’m going to say is we love you. We love your child. And that’s what they are to them. They’re their children… all you can do is throw out your heart.”

Why it matters

The gaggle is the on-record marker connecting the day’s dignified transfer — paged separately in this collection — to the administration’s Jordan investigation and its Iran posture, in the President’s own words at the scene.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard watch: the “big price” / “decimated” language is a dated Iran-posture statement tied to the Jordan deaths investigation. Noted for the scoreboard editor; no entry is published from this page.
