What happened

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller took reporters’ questions outside the White House on July 13, 2026, in Roll Call Factbase Videos’ recording. He declined to preview the President’s Thursday address, said he had not been briefed on a fatal shooting in Maine, and on Iran repeated the President’s message, adding that anyone who tried to test ’the mettle and might of President Trump and the United States of America would be very foolish for doing so.'

Miller then closed the gaggle with an extended tribute to Senator Lindsey Graham, who had died days earlier. He recalled knowing Graham before the first Trump campaign and growing close during the 2024 campaign and transition — ‘I’m so glad I got the chance to say that to him before he ended up passing on’ — and credited Graham as ’the most effective consistent [advocate] for the president’s agenda in the Senate,’ citing his role in passing the first reconciliation bill and his late-career support for the administration’s immigration enforcement agenda. ‘Lindsey, I miss you. Godspeed, and see you on the other side,’ he closed.

Why it matters

The gaggle is the White House’s most personal on-camera remembrance of Graham from inside the building: Miller’s account of Graham’s conversion into a fervent Trump ally, and of his Senate-floor persuasion as a governing skill, is part of the record of how the administration understood its chief Senate partner.
