What happened

Vice President JD Vance delivered remarks in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 8, 2026, at an event devoted to the administration’s anti-fraud work. “We’re here to talk about fraud,” Vance said. “We’re here to talk about protecting your taxpayer money. And most importantly, we’re here to talk about protecting the programs that exist that are funded by the generosity of the people in this room and that ought go to the people they’re meant for and not to make fraudsters rich.”

Vance thanked CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, fraud task force members Kim Brandt and Scott Brady — “They have protected more of your money than anybody,” he said — and Representative Bryan Steil of Wisconsin, whom he called a champion on the fraud issue. The administration’s claim, as Vance stated it, was that the task force effort had “saved you all billions and billions of dollars that was going to fraudsters.” He opened with a personal note: the event’s earlier stop at Milwaukee’s Pfister Hotel, site of the 2024 Republican convention, reminded him of the morning he nearly missed the phone call telling him he would be the vice-presidential nominee.

Why it matters

Milwaukee is one of the dated stops in the fraud task force’s national tour — the Vice President carrying the administration’s central domestic-integrity argument to a battleground state, with the CMS administrator and the task force’s own staff on the bill. This chronicle files it on the Fraud, Waste & Corruption hub with the savings claim attributed to the Vice President.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard watch: the claim, as stated by the Vice President, that the fraud effort has saved taxpayers “billions and billions of dollars” otherwise bound for fraudsters — a checkable aggregate marker for the task force record. Noted for the scoreboard editor; no entry is published from this page.
