What happened

President Donald Trump officially launched Trump Accounts at the White House on July 6, 2026, ringing an opening bell brought to the Oval Office in what the exchange leaders present described as a first: the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq ringing a joint opening together, and an opening bell rung in the Oval Office. “The American dream belongs to every child and today we are equipping the next generation with the right to claim their rightful share of it,” the Treasury-side presenter said, describing the program as an “ownership economy where all citizens become shareholders.”

The figures stated at the launch: 38% of American families have no exposure to equity markets; already 6 million American children have signed up, 86% of them in families earning less than $200,000; and 1.4 million of those accounts were to receive $1,000 from the U.S. Treasury to seed them as the markets opened. The President added that on Saturday, July 4, the administration had deposited one-time $1,000 seed contributions into the Trump accounts of over 500,000 American children. He thanked Michael and Susan Dell for a contribution he put at $6.25 billion, and said Micron had committed $250 million. “Some people think it’s going to go down as one of the most important things we’ve done during the administration,” he said.

The event ranged wider in a closing question session — the President discussed the new White House helipad, which he said Sikorsky was paying for, and a FIFA decision he said he had asked to have reviewed — but the launch itself was the bell: accounts open for trading, with trumpaccounts.gov live.

Why it matters

Trump Accounts are the administration’s signature wealth-building program for children, and this is its dated launch record: the bell, the signup and seeding figures as stated by the President and the Treasury presenter, and the private contributions named at the podium. This chronicle files it on the Economy, Tariffs & Trade hub; the October 7, 2026 enrollment announcement in this collection is the program’s follow-on marker.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard candidate: a dated program launch with checkable figures as stated at the event — 6 million children signed up, over 500,000 accounts seeded with $1,000 on July 4, a Dell contribution put at $6.25 billion and a Micron commitment of $250 million. Flagged for the scoreboard editor; the entry itself stays review-gated.
