What happened
President Donald Trump received the presentation of the Religious Liberty Commission’s report at the White House on June 26, 2026, arriving straight from the Faith & Freedom Coalition conference: “We just got back from a wonderful group of people, Faith and Freedom, and now we have something else that I’ve been working on for a long time,” he said, with Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, the commission’s chairman, beside him.
“In May of last year, I established the Presidential Commission on Religious Liberty to outline threats to the free exercise of religion in our country and to provide recommendations for action,” the President said. “America was founded by people of faith and it was settled as a haven for religious freedom… As we prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our founding next week, it is only appropriate that we work to strengthen this fundamental right… We will closely study this report that is being presented to me as president today. And my administration will continue to work with the really the pillars of protecting religious liberty for all Americans. And we must also remain one nation under God.”
Patrick presented the commission’s work as he stated it: 103 witnesses and seven months of testimony, delivered in a 200-page record. “What is religious liberty? It’s our conscience,” he said. “When governments can take away your religious liberty, they’re putting their hand in your heart and taking everything you believe in.” Vice Chairman Dr. Ben Carson followed. The President thanked Pastor Paula White and Faith Office director Jenny Korn, Domestic Policy Council director Vince Haley, and commission members including Kelly Shackelford and Rabbi Meir Soloveichik, and closed by saying the administration would act on the recommendations: “A recommendation doesn’t mean anything. This group can sell and that’s what we’re going to be doing. We’re going to bring religion back even stronger.”
Why it matters
The commission is a created institution of this administration — established by the President in May 2025, reporting to him in the White House a week before the 250th — and its report is the policy half of the faith agenda whose political half he addressed at the Faith & Freedom conference the same day. What the administration adopts from the report is the follow-through this chronicle will track.
Scoreboard watch
This is a candidate item for the weekly scoreboard: a commission report received with a stated commitment to implement its recommendations. What the scoreboard will check is adoption — which recommendations become executive actions, guidance, or legislation — against the commitment made at the presentation.
