What happened
President Donald Trump hosted American farmers and ranchers at a Rose Garden Club dinner at the White House on the evening of June 25, 2026. He opened with the room itself — the Rose Garden’s new stone surface where “female reporters would be holding their shoes like this, destroyed, ruined” in the old wet grass — and turned to the guests: “The country was founded by farmers and 250 years later you are the growers, the ranchers, the agricultural producers and you feed the nation and you power the entire world. And tonight I want to just say thank you.”
“Earlier today in the Oval Office, it was my honor to sign an executive order directing federal agencies to accelerate agricultural innovations that give farmers and ranchers the necessary resources to ensure American crops are the healthiest and the most abundant and the most affordable,” the President said. He praised Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins — “Brooke is a friend of mine and we talk all the time about affordability” — and retold the first-day egg-price exchange, crediting Rollins with bringing egg prices down from what he described as four times their current level. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was at the dinner as well; asked how the economy was doing, the President answered with his standing figure as he states it: “We have 19.2 trillion for 12 months” of investment, against “less than a trillion dollars for four years” under the prior administration.
He closed where he began: “You are the people. You are the very special ones. You’re the chosen ones. You’re the farmers. And you’re the ones that keep it all going. So I’m with you a thousand percent.”
Why it matters
Agriculture is Secretary Rollins’s portfolio, and the dinner is the constituency-facing half of a day whose policy half was the agricultural-innovation executive order the President described signing that afternoon. The affordability argument he made to the farmers — food prices down under Rollins, investment up under Bessent — is the economic record in its farm-belt form, and this chronicle tracks both halves.
Scoreboard watch
This is a candidate item for the weekly scoreboard: the President stated on the record that he signed an agricultural-innovation executive order earlier that day, June 25, 2026. What the scoreboard will check is the order itself and the agencies’ acceleration work under it, as the record develops.
