What happened

President Donald Trump addressed workers at the Mack Trucks plant in Macungie, Pennsylvania on June 23, 2026, in remarks carried in full on the White House channel. “I have a very special thanks to every single worker at this fantastic factory,” he said, teasing the plant over a prospective order — “15,000 trucks. That’s a lot of trucks… If your price is right” — and backing the local congressman for re-election from the stage.

The speech was the tariff argument made at a truck plant. “I placed 50% tariffs on foreign copper, aluminum, and steel so they couldn’t come in and steal your jobs. And sometimes even more than 100% tariffs,” the President said. “I placed a 25% tariff on foreign automobiles and very importantly, I posed a 25% tariff on medium and heavy duty trucks so that Mac Truck could do very well with this factory in Pennsylvania. But all American roads will be filled with American trucks very shortly.” He stated that factory construction is running at three times any prior level because builders “didn’t want to pay the tariff,” and that he had cut the trade deficit with China “by the largest amount in the history of trade” — “we cut our trade deficit… 67%.”

He warned the plant’s workers what he said a Democratic win would mean for their prospective order — “your 15,000 trucks… are dead. They’re not going to have 15,000. They’re not going to have 15 trucks” — pressed the Save America Act and its proof-of-citizenship and mail-in-ballot provisions, and ranged across Iran (no nuclear weapon), Venezuela, and California’s vote counting, before closing: “We will make America powerful again. We will make America wealthy again… And we will make America great again.”

Why it matters

Mack Trucks is the second flagship-plant visit of this backfill — after Peterbilt in Denton — where the President argues the tariff program from a factory floor that builds the product the tariffs protect. Trade is the portfolio of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and USTR Jamieson Greer, and the 25 percent heavy-truck tariff he cited is a specific, checkable instrument of that program.

Scoreboard watch

The remarks restate dated claims this chronicle tracks: the 50 percent metals and 25 percent auto and heavy-truck tariff rates as he stated them, the 67 percent trade-deficit cut, and the prospective 15,000-truck order discussed from the stage. All are recorded here as stated by the President.
