What happened

President Donald Trump took questions from the press upon departure from Queens, New York on June 9, 2026, after attending the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. “We have ongoing negotiations in Iran and with Iran. That hasn’t stopped. And we could have at least an idea by one or two days from now, but I think it’s going well,” the President said. “The blockade continues to hold 100%. Nothing is getting through our blockade. No oil, no income, no nothing.”

He then invited Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, traveling with him, to update reporters. Burgum described the administration’s Washington beautification work ahead of the 250th celebrations — monuments and fountains restored, the reflecting pool near completion — and the President expanded on crime figures as he stated them: New Orleans “down 77%,” Memphis “down 74%,” and Washington, DC “down 95%,” crediting the National Guard and DC police.

Why it matters

The gaggle is the President’s last on-camera Iran update before the June 11 proclamation event and the G7 trip: negotiations live, a decision window of “one or two days” as he stated it, and the blockade described as total. Those claims frame the agreement narrative that the Evian bilaterals then carried, paged in this collection.

Scoreboard watch

The stated blockade claim and the one-to-two-day decision window are dated claims to track against the agreement’s signing record; the city crime percentages are recorded as stated by the President.
