What happened

President Donald Trump held a roundtable on American agriculture with Wisconsin farmers in Chippewa Falls on June 5, 2026. “We love the farmers. We love everything about your state,” he said. “We’re with you a thousand percent… and you’re going to see some very good things.” He recalled the first-term trade fight with China and the assistance that followed: “In the first term, I got the farmers $28 billion. And I’ll never forget, I was in the White House. I had about 35 farmers along this big, beautiful table,” adding that further support was under consideration: “We’re looking at something also right now.”

The President also addressed the Iran war from the farm table, saying Iran’s nuclear capability had been the obstacle and that the outcome would come “either finished with a piece of paper or finished a more difficult way,” and citing the naval blockade and, as he stated it, 159 Iranian ships sunk in four days.

Why it matters

Agriculture is a recurring scoreboard constituency for this administration — a sector the President says his tariffs first hurt and then compensated. The Chippewa Falls roundtable records his standing pitch to that constituency in the 2026 cycle, on the Economy hub: first-term payments recalled, new support under study, and the war framed as the precondition for farm prosperity.

The “$28 billion” first-term figure is recorded as stated by the President, and the signaled new support — “we’re looking at something” — is a pending item to track against USDA announcements.
