What happened
Energy Secretary Chris Wright delivered remarks at an Atlantic Council event in Dubrovnik, Croatia, in the Department of Energy’s upload of the April 27, 2026 gathering. Wright noted that Dubrovnik — the former Republic of Ragusa — was among the first nations in Europe to recognize the United States at the end of the Revolutionary War, and said he attended as a representative of President Trump and his “energy addition” agenda: “what the world needs is more energy, not less energy.”
Wright said the United States would grow its natural gas export capacity by somewhere between 15 and 20 million tons in 2026 alone, and would remain by far the world’s largest natural gas exporter, as he stated the build-out. He pointed to Croatia’s Krk LNG import terminal — built to serve Croatia’s neighbors as well as Croatia itself — as the receiving-end partnership the export growth requires, and recalled that the previous administration had paused new U.S. gas export terminals, a policy he said the Trump administration reversed.
Why it matters
The Dubrovnik remarks open Wright’s Croatia swing two days before the Three Seas address: the export-capacity pledge and the Krk terminal are the concrete offer behind the partnership case he then made to the region’s leaders and press.
