What happened

President Donald Trump received a DoorDash delivery at the White House on April 13, 2026 — the first White House delivery of its kind, staged to mark what the tax law’s no-tax-on-tips provision meant for one driver. The driver, who gave her name as Sharon Simmons, told the President she had saved over $11,000: “I saved over $11,000 by not having to claim” the tips, she said, calling the refund “the biggest you’ve ever had” in the President’s words and “very surprising” in her own. “We call it the great big beautiful bill. We should call it the great big beautiful tax cut bill,” the President said, noting her savings came from tips alone, before overtime and Social Security provisions. She thanked him “for the no tax on tips. It has helped my family out immensely.”

The delivery then turned into an impromptu press gaggle in the Oval Office doorway. On Iran, the President said the sticking point “was over nuclear… they will never have a nuclear weapon,” and of the enriched material, “we’ll get it back. Either we’ll get it back from them or we’ll take it.” On the naval blockade, asked for the endgame, he answered: “Maybe everything… we can’t let a country blackmail or extort the world.” He responded to Pope Leo’s criticism by saying “I like Lewis better than I like the Pope” — a reference to the Pope’s brother — and cited, as he stated it, “the lowest murder rate in 125 years since 1900.” He also previewed the White House UFC fight on June 14 — “they’re going to start building about a 4,500 seat arena” at the front door, with “50 to 100,000 people” watching on screens at the Ellipse — and closed by praising Attorney General Todd Blanche: “Todd thus far is doing a fantastic job.”

Why it matters

The DoorDash visit is the White House’s Tax Week human exhibit for the no-tax-on-tips provision — one driver, one named five-figure saving, delivered to the Oval Office — recorded on the Economy, Tariffs & Trade hub on the eve of the April 15 Tax Day briefing and the President’s Las Vegas Tax Week remarks.
