What happened

President Donald Trump took questions from reporters on arriving in Miami, Florida, on March 27, 2026. He opened by declining to discuss a close friend who, he said, had been in an accident: “He’s got some difficulty. There was an accident and that’s all I know. Very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person, amazing man… I don’t want to talk about it.”

Asked about the funding fight in the House, the President framed it as a border question: “The Democrats want to let illegals come into the country, criminals, murderers, every kind of criminal you can imagine, and the Republicans just don’t want to have it happen.” He cited the figure he has used throughout this period — “11,888 murderers” among those who entered under the prior administration, as he stated it — and said of the border: “We have borders that are stone cold closed. Ten months now in a row, nobody came into the country.” He pointed to a recent Chicago shooting, saying the victim was the daughter of a friend of Dan Scavino, as he stated it. On Iran, he closed: “They are being decimated. They are talking. We are talking now. They want to make a deal… our military is the greatest in the world by far. Iran is being decimated.”

Why it matters

The Miami gaggle compresses the administration’s two running arguments of late March 2026 — that the funding standoff is a fight over immigration enforcement, and that Operation Epic Fury has brought Iran to the table — into a single arrival statement. It is recorded on the Border & Immigration hub.
