What happened
President Donald Trump opened a cabinet meeting on March 26, 2026 — the second of the year and the eleventh of his second term, as the Press Secretary had announced the day before — by welcoming its newest member: “our newest member, Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin… he was a very popular senator, very effective senator.” Mullin had been sworn in two days earlier.
The President put the meeting on “day 41 of the disgraceful Democrat shutdown of Markwayne’s department,” as he stated it, saying travelers at airports “are angry at the Democrats” and that the fight is over “the quest to return to open borders and give amnesty to illegal alien criminals.” He repeated the figure of “11,888 murderers” who he said entered under the prior administration, “many of them… gone now because of us.”
He then gave an update on Operation Epic Fury, three weeks in: “We’ve wiped out their navy completely, their air force completely. We’ve wiped out a large percentage of their missiles and the missile launchers… we’ve knocked out probably close to 90% of the launchers, probably more than 90% of the missiles themselves,” as he stated it, along with drone and missile factories. Against press accounts that he wanted a deal, he answered: “They are begging to make a deal. Not me. They’re begging to make a deal.” The open-press session ran to a wide-ranging close, including the President’s call for cognitive testing of presidential candidates.
Why it matters
The March 26 cabinet meeting is the administration’s state-of-play session for late March 2026: a new DHS secretary seated inside a department in its sixth week without funding, and the President’s fullest cabinet-table account of the Iran operation at the three-week mark. It is recorded on the Elections & Governance hub.
Scoreboard watch
The Epic Fury figures the President stated at the table — roughly 90% of Iran’s launchers and missiles knocked out, its navy and air force wiped out — and the day-41 shutdown count for DHS, as stated by the President, are recorded here for the weekly scoreboard.
