What happened
In the White House upload of the March 25, 2026, Medal of Honor ceremony, the President awarded the medal in the name of Congress to three Army soldiers.
Master Sergeant Roddie Edmonds received it posthumously. As the senior American prisoner in his camp in January 1945, Edmonds ordered all 1,200 American prisoners to fall in together when the Germans demanded that only Jewish American prisoners step forward; with a pistol pressed to his forehead, he refused to single them out, and the more than 200 Jewish American soldiers in the camp were not separated. The citation credits him with saving their lives and leading the prisoners’ resistance until the Germans abandoned the camp.
Staff Sergeant Michael Ollis was honored for Afghanistan, where, during a complex attack on his forward operating base, he ran to the fight without his gear, advanced under heavy fire alongside a Polish soldier, and placed his own body between a downed insurgent’s suicide vest and the wounded Polish soldier, at the cost of his own life.
Staff Sergeant Terry Richardson received the medal in person for Vietnam, where, with his company pinned down on Hill 222, he three times exposed himself to enemy fire to drag wounded comrades back, then charged up the hill alone with a radio and directed tactical air strikes for seven more hours after being wounded; 82 men of his company survived, including two present in the room.
Why it matters
The ceremony adds three names — one long-posthumous, from a prisoner-of-war camp in 1945 — to the roster of Medal of Honor recipients honored at this White House, across three wars. It is recorded on the Veterans hub.
