What happened

President Donald Trump traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, on March 23, 2026, for a roundtable of the Memphis Safe Task Force, refusing, as he told the room, to cancel: “We were going to cancel Memphis… I said, ‘We’re not canceling Memphis for anything.’” Tennessee and federal officials at the table included Governor Bill Lee and Attorney General Pam Bondi, as identified in the broadcast.

He opened with Operation Epic Fury, announcing that, “based on preliminary conversations between the United States and Iran over the past two days, I’ve directed the Department of War to temporarily postpone planned strikes against major energy and electricity targets in Iran… to determine whether a broader agreement can be reached.” He reviewed the operation as he stated it — Iran’s navy, air force, and air defenses knocked out, ballistic missile and drone launchers “down by more than 90%” — and restated the bottom line: “no matter what, we’ll ensure that Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon.” (The White House’s 87-second clip of this Iran passage is recorded as an alternate source for this page rather than paged separately.)

The roundtable itself was the crime report. The President said the Memphis Safe Task Force “has made over 7,342 arrests,” as he stated it, and framed Memphis inside the national claim that “last year the murder rate nationwide saw the single largest decline ever recorded to the lowest level in 125 years.” Task force members and Memphis residents spoke to the change on the ground.

Why it matters

Memphis is the showcase city of the administration’s federal-surge model for crime — a named task force, a running arrest count, and a presidential visit to collect the results in person. The same event also carried the first on-camera announcement of the Epic Fury energy-strike postponement. It is recorded on the Justice & Crime hub.

The Memphis Safe Task Force arrest figure (7,342, as stated by the President) and the national murder-rate claim are recorded here as candidate items for the weekly scoreboard.
