What happened

President Donald Trump took questions in Palm Beach, Florida, on March 23, 2026, and the gaggle was dominated by Iran. Answering the Iranian foreign ministry’s denial that productive conversations were happening, he said: “We have had very, very strong talks. We’ll see where they lead. We have major points of agreement. I would say almost all points of agreement.” The talks, he said, were conducted by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — “Mr. Witkoff and Mr. Kushner had them. They went, I would say, perfectly” — and would continue by phone, with a meeting “at some point very, very soon”: “We’re doing a five-day period. We’ll see how that goes. And if it goes well, we’re going to end up with settling this. Otherwise, we just keep bombing.”

He laid out the American terms as he stated them: “We want to see no nuclear bomb, no nuclear weapon, not even close to it… We want to see peace in the Middle East. We want the nuclear dust. We’re going to want that… we want no enrichment, but we also want the enriched uranium.” He said the deal would be “great for Israel and it’s great for the other Middle Eastern countries, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, all of them, Kuwait, and Bahrain in particular.” On Iran’s leadership after the strikes, he said the United States was dealing with the figure it believed to be running the country, and of the new supreme leader: “We have not heard from the son. Every once in a while, you’ll see a statement made, but we don’t know if he’s living.”

Why it matters

The Palm Beach gaggle is the fullest statement of the administration’s negotiating position at the moment the Epic Fury strikes paused for talks — the named envoys, the five-day window, and the complete terms list, all on the record from the President himself. It is recorded on the Foreign Policy & Defense hub.

Scoreboard watch
