What happened
HUD published Secretary Scott Turner’s opening statement at the House Financial Services Committee under the title ‘Secretary Turner’s Opening Statement at the House Financial Services Committee’; HUD published no description for the upload, which carries only the opening statement, not the full hearing. In the statement, a transcript of which was reviewed for this page, Turner said he came to update the committee on the HUD team’s work over the first year of the administration, thanked the committee’s leadership for its partnership, and said housing affordability is, as he put it, a defining issue.
Why it matters
The Financial Services Committee is HUD’s authorizing committee in the House; the Secretary’s opening statement is his on-record account of the department’s first year and his affordability case to the committee that writes its housing law.
