What happened

Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll gave remarks at the AUSA Warriors Corner, in the Department of Energy’s upload of the October 14, 2025 session, in a conversation on nuclear power for the military. Wright argued the administration’s aim is not energy independence but energy dominance — producing so much energy that industry returns to the United States, allies buy from friends rather than foes, and America holds an energy advantage over every country, because energy, he said, is the sector that enables everything else.

On nuclear, Wright noted the United States built over a hundred reactors in 20 years and remains the world’s largest nuclear energy producer, yet nuclear’s share of global energy peaked at about six and a half percent in 2000 and sits below five percent today, as he stated the shares — smothered, he said, by politics and fear. With the President’s four executive orders and partners in the Army and industry, he predicted rapid growth in nuclear energy over the next 5, 10, and 15 years. Driscoll described the Army’s transformation effort and its microreactor program as the next step — off-grid, consistent, powerful energy for modern warfare and AI demands — and Wright traced the Energy Department’s own genesis to the Army-run Manhattan Project, pledging the department’s help to the Army’s effort.

Why it matters

Warriors Corner pairs Wright’s dominance doctrine with the military customer for it: the Army’s microreactor program gives the nuclear revival a defense mission and a first buyer, with the Energy Secretary publicly committing his department — born of the Manhattan Project — to deliver alongside the Army.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard watch: the Wright–Driscoll nuclear partnership as presented at AUSA on October 14, 2025 — rapid nuclear growth predicted over 5 to 15 years under the President’s four executive orders, and the Energy Department committed to the Army’s microreactor effort, as the two secretaries stated it.
