What happened
Deputy Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling introduced the Job Accommodation Network (JAN) in a Department of Labor message released on September 18, 2025. He described JAN, as the department presents it, as America’s top source of guidance on job accommodations for workers with disabilities, and a free resource built to make a real difference in the workplace — clear, easy-to-read guidance being, as he put it, a hallmark of this administration.
Sonderling noted that under the Americans with Disabilities Act employers are required to provide accommodations, and that JAN supports them with consultation and its comprehensive website, AskJAN.org, including specialized and tailored accommodations for specific employees, as he described the service. He said most employees and employers do not realize the resources JAN makes available, and presented the rollout as the department putting those experts and guidance in front of the workplaces that need them.
Why it matters
JAN is the Labor Department’s standing technical-assistance service on disability accommodation; the Deputy Secretary’s message is the administration presenting that service — free expert consultation plus the AskJAN.org library — as its model of compliance assistance: guidance first, in plain language, aimed at keeping workers with disabilities on the job.
