What happened
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller answered reporters at a White House stakeout in DWS News’ recording (uploaded September 6, 2025). The surviving recording opens mid-exchange on public health: Miller attacked what he called the Democrats’ failed approach, citing rising obesity, diabetes and childhood chronic disease, and said President Trump and Secretary Kennedy were ‘working on getting to the systemic causes’ of the chronic-disease burden.
On Venezuela, Miller said Nicolas Maduro ‘is an indicted drug trafficker… a fugitive from justice in America,’ noted the $50 million reward, and argued: ‘It is not a government. It is a drug cartel, a narco-trafficking organization that is running Venezuela.’ He said Maduro’s network works directly with other designated foreign terrorist organizations, including the FARC and the Mexican cartels, and that President Trump was directing the military to use its constitutional authorities against the hemisphere’s terrorist organizations after decades in which, as Miller framed it, they were left unharmed while U.S. forces fought terrorists overseas.
Why it matters
The stakeout shows Miller carrying both halves of the domestic-foreign doctrine at once: the MAHA chronic-disease argument at home and, abroad, the legal framing of Venezuela’s regime as a cartel — the premise for treating hemispheric trafficking as a military counterterrorism mission.
Scoreboard watch
Scoreboard watch: Miller’s September 2025 statement of the Venezuela position — the Maduro regime treated as a designated cartel, with the $50 million reward cited — flagged for the scoreboard editors; the entry itself remains review-gated.
