What happened

Energy Secretary Chris Wright delivered remarks at Pump Station 1 of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, in the Department of Energy’s upload of the June 2, 2025 event. Wright told the workers in front of him that they are, in his words, the greatest liberators in human history — that the oil and gas industry more than doubled life expectancy, in a world where not long ago half of all children born did not survive to their fifth birthday, as he stated the history.

Wright called Alaska the poster child of the energy President Trump was elected to unleash: the President, he said, wants to see the flows through the Trans-Alaska Pipeline doubled — the oil and the discoveries are there — and to build what he called the big beautiful twin, a natural gas pipeline from the North Slope. Oil is the largest source of energy on the planet and natural gas the fastest growing, he said, and Alaska holds both. He thanked the Alaska companies and Asian allies present as partners, and closed by urging Washington’s politicians to pass the big beautiful bill, on the example of the Iñupiaq people who had lived in the region for 10,000 years, as he framed the appeal.

Why it matters

Pump Station 1 is Wright’s Alaska agenda stated at the pipeline itself: double TAPS throughput and build the North Slope gas line — the two projects the administration’s Alaska energy push, and its Asian LNG diplomacy, both run through.
