What happened

President Donald Trump signed an executive order in the Oval Office on Mar. 31, 2025, carried on the White House channel, joined by Kid Rock, whom the President called a friend of many years who had pressed the issue of ticket sales, scalping, and gouging. Staff Secretary Will Scharf explained the order on camera: resellers use bots and algorithms to buy up huge blocks of tickets and resell them at exorbitant prices, and the order charges the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice with rigorously enforcing the laws on the books, in collaboration with state attorneys general, so entertainers and fans are not subject to those practices.

Kid Rock said anyone who had bought a concert ticket in the last decade knew the problem - a $100 ticket becoming $170 at checkout, and bots relisting the best seats at a 400 or 500 percent markup, as he stated it - called the order “a great first step,” and said he would like legislation capping resale prices down the road. The President then took questions, confirming on camera that he planned to travel to Saudi Arabia as early as the next month, with Qatar and the UAE also on the trip, and saying the Saudis had agreed to spend close to a trillion dollars with American companies, which he framed as jobs.

Why it matters

The signing is the administration’s consumer-protection entry in the live-entertainment market - an enforcement order aimed at bot-driven ticket scalping - and the same session put the President’s planned Middle East trip and the close-to-a-trillion-dollar Saudi investment figure on the record, as he stated them.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard candidate: an executive order signed on camera directing FTC and DOJ enforcement against unfair practices in the live entertainment ticket market. The close-to-a-trillion-dollar Saudi investment figure, as stated by the President, is also recorded here as a checkable item. Flagged for the scoreboard; the entry itself stays review-gated.
