What happened
President Donald Trump hosted the annual Greek Independence Day celebration at the White House on Mar. 24, 2025, carried on the White House channel. Archbishop Elpidophoros of America thanked the President for the White House Faith Office and for his support of Christians in the Middle East and the Ecumenical Patriarchate, compared him to the Emperor Constantine, and presented him with a holy cross as a symbol of peace and divine guidance.
The President welcomed the Greek American guests and said he would sign the proclamation officially recognizing March 25, 2025, as Greek Independence Day, celebrating 204 years of Greek sovereignty and freedom. He also put the administration’s investment tally at close to $4 trillion, as he stated it.
Why it matters
The celebration is the White House’s annual Greek Independence Day observance, with the proclamation signing and the Archbishop’s presentation recorded in full - part of the administration’s faith-office and diaspora engagement record.
