What happened

HUD announced that Secretary Scott Turner and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum signed a memorandum of understanding to identify and open underutilized federal lands for affordable housing, under the title ‘HUD and DOI Open Under Utilized Federal Lands For Affordable Housing.’

Why it matters

The MOU pairs HUD’s housing mission with the Interior Department’s land inventory — the administration’s argument that surplus federal land is part of the housing-supply answer. Its test is the parcels actually identified and opened under the agreement.
