What happened
President Donald Trump delivered remarks at the White House Digital Assets Summit on Mar. 7, 2025, carried on the White House channel - the first such summit held at the White House. The session opened with FIFA President Gianni Infantino presenting the new FIFA Club World Cup trophy ahead of that summer’s tournament in the United States, before the President turned to the summit’s subject.
The President said that the day before, he had signed an executive order officially creating the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, which he described as a virtual Fort Knox for digital gold to be housed within the United States Treasury, and he restated his pledge to make America the Bitcoin superpower of the world and the crypto capital of the planet. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told the summit that the order establishing the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and Stockpile would position the United States as a leader among nations in digital asset strategy, using the digital assets already in the nation’s possession, as he stated it.
Why it matters
The summit is the public launch of the administration’s digital-assets program: the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve signed the previous day, presented to the industry’s leaders at the White House with the Treasury Secretary assigned to the strategy on camera.
