What happened

President Donald Trump addressed a joint session of Congress on Mar. 4, 2025, carried on the White House channel (uploaded Mar. 5). “America is back,” he declared, saying that six weeks after standing beneath the Capitol dome to proclaim the dawn of the golden age, his administration had accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations accomplish in four or eight years, and was just getting started. He called the November 5 election a mandate: all seven swing states won, an Electoral College victory of 312 votes, and counties won 2,700 to 525, as he stated them, adding that for the first time in modern history more Americans believed the country was headed in the right direction than the wrong direction, a 27-point swing he called the most ever.

The address was interrupted early by protest; the Speaker directed members to uphold decorum and the Sergeant at Arms removed Representative Al Green from the chamber, as shown in the broadcast. Across the address the President laid out the administration’s program - border enforcement, tariffs, energy, and the renewal of the American dream, which he called unstoppable - and honored guests in the gallery whose stories the White House carried into the next day’s briefing, among them Marc Fogel and 13-year-old D.J. Daniel, whom the President made an honorary Secret Service agent during the speech.

Why it matters

The joint address is the administration’s defining early set-piece: the mandate claim, the 43-day record claim, and the program for the term, all stated by the President to Congress six weeks into the term - the baseline text against which the scoreboard measures delivery.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard watch: the address’s stated figures (312 Electoral College votes; 2,700 to 525 counties; 43 days) and its program commitments are recorded here as the term’s baseline claims - flagged for the scoreboard editors; the entry itself remains review-gated.
