What happened

President Donald Trump hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India for a bilateral meeting at the White House, carried on the White House channel (uploaded Feb. 14, 2025). The President said the two had a wonderful relationship and a lot to work on: first, oil and gas - the United States had it and India needed it, as he put it - and then trade and many other things. He called Modi a friend who was doing a great job in India, as he stated it.

Modi, speaking through an interpreter, congratulated the President and said the two countries would advance the relationship built over the previous four years, describing the partnership of the world’s oldest democracy and the world’s largest democracy as one plus one making eleven, not two - a strength that would work for the welfare of humanity, as he stated it.

Why it matters

The bilateral meeting is the working session of Modi’s February 2025 visit: energy supply and trade named as the agenda by the President himself, ahead of the joint press conference from the same visit paged separately in this run.
