What happened

President Donald Trump introduced Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to take the oath of office as Secretary of Health and Human Services, in the ceremony carried on the White House channel (uploaded Feb. 14, 2025, following Kennedy’s Feb. 13 Senate confirmation). The President said Kennedy would lead a great national mission to Make America Healthy Again, as promised the year before, and described him as a fierce advocate for the health of America’s children, committed to getting dangerous chemicals out of the environment and the food supply. He cited, as he stated the figures, a more than 40 percent increase in childhood cancer since 1975 and autism rising from one in 10,000 children to one in 36.

Taking questions afterward, Kennedy said his plans were radical transparency and returning gold-standard science at NIH, FDA, and CDC, ending the corruption and corporate capture of those agencies and removing people with conflicts of interest from their panels, as he stated them. On vaccines, he said they should be tested, they should be safe, and everybody should have informed consent, as he stated his position.

Why it matters

The swearing-in installs the HHS Secretary whose Make America Healthy Again mandate is one of this chronicle’s central tracked files, with the chronic-disease figures the President used to frame the mission and the new secretary’s own first-day program stated on camera.
