What happened
President Donald Trump hosted King Abdullah II of Jordan and the Crown Prince at the White House on Feb. 11, 2025, carried on the White House channel. The King said he truly believed the President could take the region across the finish line to bring stability, peace, and prosperity, and that it was the collective responsibility in the Middle East to work with him, as he stated it.
On Gaza, the President said that with the United States in control of that piece of land there would be stability in the Middle East for the first time, and that the people who live in Gaza now would live beautifully and safely in another location, as he described it. The King said one thing Jordan could do right away was take 2,000 children who were either cancer patients or in a very ill state to Jordan as quickly as possible, and that Egypt and the Arab countries had a plan to be presented after discussions in Riyadh. The President called the 2,000-children offer music to his ears and said he believed, 99 percent, that they would work something out with Egypt as well.
Why it matters
The Jordan meeting is the first allied-leader session on the President’s Gaza proposal: the King’s 2,000-children commitment made on camera, and the Arab-states plan he said was coming, stated by both leaders in their own words.
